Affordable, Self Catering, Big 5 Safari Lodge, set on the banks of the Mohlabetsi River, in the Greater Kruger National Park
Nyala Safari Lodge is all about making you feel at home, so that you feel part of the incredible environment around you.
Our facilities have been designed to offer you everything to make your African safari experience exceptional, from our fully equipped kitchen where meals are lovingly prepared for you to our indoor and outdoor dining areas, our cozy lounge and bar and our tempting splash pool surrounded by beautiful shade trees and rolling green lawn, all overlooking the seasonal Mohlabetsi, whose name means “sweet waters” in the local vernacular. A waterhole in front of the lodge means there is always the chance to spot animals as they come down to drink from our shady viewing deck.
If you prefer to opt for an exclusive, self-catered option (available over weekends only for groups of a minimum of 10 people) then our wonderful kitchen becomes your own private hub and the heart of your home away from home, where lifelong memories are made along with hearty meals!
Our five thatched chalets, known as rondavels, are designed in the traditional way and can accommodate a maximum of 14 guests at any one time. Constructed to be refreshingly cool in summer and warm in winter, the decor is designed to echo the wonderful colours and textures of the wilderness, with splashes of colour inspired by the traditions and heritage of the local Shangaan people.
Our chalets are celebrations of African culture and the incredible wilderness which surrounds the lodge. Plush cotton linen and hand-woven textiles complement traditional artwork and carvings, creating an air of authentic, practical “barefoot” luxury in each chalet. Soft white mosquito nets around our comfortable bedsteads and soft lighting add touches of colonial charm and romanticism.
CHECK-IN TIME: Strictly only from 14:00 onwards but please try to aim not to arrive later than 15:00.
CHECK-OUT TIME: Strictly only up to 10:00 late checkouts will attract a surcharge
Arrivals after 16:00 will result in guest losing out on their first evening game drive
We urge our guests to plan ahead and always arrive during daylight. Driving at night is in the first place potentially dangerous with the conditions our countries roads are in and driving inside the reserve on the smaller dirt roads between bushes and animals roaming are extremely stressful.
ENTRANCE GATE TIMES: The Jejane Gate will only allow visitors to enter up to 20:00
PLEASE NOTE that although Nyala is only 15km from Hoedspruit town, it is at least a 40minute drive due to the speed limit within the reserve.
