Nyala Safari Lodge – Dining
Affordable, Self Catering, Big 5 Safari Lodge, set on the banks of the Mohlabetsi River, in the Greater Kruger National Park
Besides offering food for the soul, Nyala Safari Lodge also offers sustenance of the traditional variety, with hearty, home-cooked breakfasts, leisurely light lunches and wonderful, indulgent dinners. Meals are served either in the indoor dining area or outside, under the vast African skies which at night are like black velvet embroidered with millions of glittering diamonds as the stars of the Milky Way reveal themselves…
Traditional dinner delicacies like braaivleis and pap (the South African version of barbecued meat and grits) and potjiekos (a stew prepared in a cast-iron pot) are regularly prepared over open fires in our boma, while guests relax around a crackling fire with drinks in hand, sharing stories of the days’ adventures with their guides.
Vegetarians are well catered for with some of the finest fresh local produce used to create mouth-watering meat-free alternatives. And our range of delicious desserts are fitting finishing touches to the Nyala bush-dining experience.
For groups on our weekend, exclusive self-catering option, meals can either be prepared in the kitchen or the boma. Nyala’s staff are on hand to assist in getting fires started and are in attendance to tend to daily housekeeping and kitchen cleaning duties. Tea and coffee is provided, as are two game drives per day and use of all the lodge facilities.
CHECK-IN TIME: Strictly only from 14:00 on wards but please try to aim not to arrive later than 15:00.
Arrivals after 16:00 will result in guest losing out on their first evening game drive
We urge our guests to plan ahead and always arrive during daylight. Driving at night is in the first place potentially dangerous with the conditions our countries roads are in and driving inside the reserve on the smaller dirt roads between bushes and animals roaming are extremely stressful.
ENTRANCE GATE TIMES: The Jejane Gate will only allow visitors to enter up to 20:00
CHECK-OUT TIME: Strictly before or at 10:00.
PLEASE NOTE that although Nyala is only 15km from Hoedspruit town, it is at least a 40minute drive due to the speed limit within the reserve.
